Pimp My Artifact!!

Hey, guys. Lately, I've become kind of obsessed with the Apparatus of the Kwalish, and I have decided to militarize it. I think I've got most everything worked, but I need help with one thing.

Let me say that based upon the description, I have decided that it is a large "creature" made from iron. I decided to make the body completely out of adamantine. How would this affect its hit points? The description in the DMG says it has 200 hit points. I'm assuming the adamantine gives it at least 500 hit points? I'm not really sure.

Also, how much do you all think that much adamantine would cost? The cost for adamantine for a suit of full plate is 15000 gp. I'm thinking 150k gold for the apparatus.

I know this is a silly project, but my group only meets every other week so I needed something to bide my time.

Tried Manual of the Planes? - "The true nature of the Avenger, a unique figure on the Elemental Plane of Water, is unrevealed. Considered a myth by many, the Avenger appears as a great, dark gray manta ray measuring about 90 feet from the nose to the base of the tail and 180 feet from wingtip to wingtip. Its tail, which extends a further 90 feet, discharges lightning bolts (as an 18th-level sorcerer), apparently at will. The Avenger appears to be a construct or a vehicle as opposed to a living beast, because it propels itself through the water with a battery of water-screws."

well... as to HP... maybe don't increase HP, but improve the AC. According to the 1st ed DMG, weapons and armor of +5 are made of adamantine alloyed steel... so, that would att a +5 magical armor qualification to the whole apparatus. The 2nd Ed DMG states that adamantine adds a +1 to armor/to hit...

As to cost. The 2nd Ed DMG states that adamantine is 500 times as expensive as steel. Comparing to the plate mail may be a nice estimate, though if I were DM, I'd rule that the whole apparatus, capable of holding two men, with the pincers and a relatively thick 'skin' would approximate 20 rather than 10 plate mails in terms of weight... but that is just me...

Adamantine has hardness 20, and hit points of 40 per inch of thickness. Steel/iron has hardness 10, and hit points of 30 per inch of thickness. You can find this in the hardness table on the SRD. So I'd probably give it a bump to like 300 hit points, and up the hardness to 25.

(I believe the Apparatus has a hardness of 15 (10 for iron + 5 for being magic), which is why I'd boost it to 25 for adamantine.)
