D&D 5E Pimp Slapping the Wizard!: A little math

Edit: The original posting had a big math error, the damage bonus from strength wasn't factored in! That has been corrected.

So people wanted to know what the affect of shield and a better dex would have on the results. Lets take a look.

My new wizard, with a Dex of 16, Mage Armor, and Shield...has an AC of 21. Further, the fighter will win the shove contest 80.5% of the time. (Note I found a slight flaw in the original post, the shove should have 83.5%...it ultimately doesn't affect the conclusion).

So with this factored in:

DPR (4 attacks): 31
DPR (shove + 3): 33.0488625

DPR (8 attacks): 62
DPR (shove + 7): 77.1140125

Conclusion: So now, shove is actually more useful whether you are using 4 attacks or your action surge.

Oh, and just because we keep doing a fighter vs wizard comparison...assuming shield was the wizard's at will spell, how long would it take the fighter to take care of business?

Wizard HP (18 con): 152

4 attacks: 4.9 rounds to kill wizard
Shove + 3: 4.6

4 attacks (2 rounds of action surge): 2.9
Shove +3 (2 rounds of Shove +7): 1.97

Conclusion: When using action surge, the shove actually makes a big big difference, it can in fact drop the fight by an entire round!

And just for fun, lets see what team work does for Shove!

Lets bring in Cathragan, our beloved Rogue.

Cuthgar and Cathragan feel like curb stomping a wizard, so lets see the effects.

Our rogue will have 2 short swords, and will always get sneak attack by pairing with the fighter. Shove will also give the rogue advantage on his attacks. Lets see how that affects the two DPRs together:

Well....I am extremely embarrassed:(

I missed one small detail in my calculations....the actual strength bonus to damage!!!

So....I will be updating all of those numbers shortly, very sorry about that.

Update: Numbers have all been updated.

Cuthgar and Cathragan feel like curb stomping a wizard (who shall remain nameless for he is so ashamed!!), so lets see the effects.

Our rogue will have a short sword (the math on TWF gets a bit more complicated so lets keep it simple for now), and will always get sneak attack by pairing with the fighter. Shove will also give the rogue advantage on his attacks. Lets see how that affects the two DPRs together

Rogue
+11 to hit (+5 dex, +6 prof) vs AC 21.

DPR (1 attack): 26.1
DPR (1 attacks w/advantage): 38.9

DPR (Fighter 4 attack + Rogue 1): 57.1
DPR (Fighter Shove +3 + Rogue 1 w/advantage): 71.97

Conclusion: Yowza! Taken together, shove increases their damage by 26%!
