Angcuru's Bhaalspawn Saga Story Hour

Come along on the 'adventures' of my namesake character, Angcuru Melaroira. Deep plot lines; character developments; romances; huge, epic battles; and of course, a prophecy. Gotta have a prophecy.

Long, detailed updates usually once per week. ;)

In-Story Quotes:

Jaheira: "Apart from being locked in a cage for no clear reason, deprived of anything even resembling a decent meal, not knowing where my husband is, and having to listen to Angcuru's screams as that evil man tortured him, I'm just fine, thank you for asking."

Minsc: "Minsc sees your point, Angcuru. Pipes can only dent evil, whilst swords (no matter how small) can chop it up into tiny little evil pieces for Boo to devour so it DOES NOT RISE AGAIN!!!"

Quotes by Readers:
Blackshirt5 - "A well written story(although a bit like Stephen King, I think Angcuru has diarhea of the word processor sometimes)."

Barsoom Tales

Story Hour based on my Barsoom d20 homebrew campaign, with dinosaurs, creepy undead, flintlock pistols and all sorts of good stuff. No wizards, no dragons, no elves, just good old story-telling fun.
The Saijadani turned his face to Arrafin, cigar forgotten, barely able to focus on her. He had a pistol in either hand.

"I need bigger guns."

"Beast of Burden", from Dungeon Magazine #100 by Michael Kortes.

Description (from Dungeon #100, page 5): "A massive behemoth from another plane stalks the land, destroying everying in its part with the aid of an army of gnolls."

Joshua Randall's comment on the story hour was:
"Your stories have a refreshing lack of over-dramatized pretension."

1. Gfunk's Story Hour (Completed!)

http://www.enworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=33249
  • An epic journey (Levels 14-21) through the modules City of the Spider Queen and Bastion of Broken Souls.
  • Watch as a PC slowly becomes evil and turns against her allies. Can a cleric of the God of Justice stop the evil alienist before she destroys Faerun?
User Quotes:
  • Elemental
    • "I've just read the whole thing, and well...... In a good way. I love this one--the writing, the eclectic cast of characters, and the believable way they hang together."
  • Tallarn
    • "Great stuff! The movements of armies...fate of nations hanging in the balance :D"
  • Neverwinter Knight
    • "Wow...what an epilogue !!! Certainly worthy of this epic story hour."
  • Serpenteye
    • "Great story,I love what you've done with the setting  You (all of you) really made the game come alive."
  • Tidus444
    • "Just finished reading through all of this in 2 days... it was awesome. I normally don't enjoy story hours very much, but your's was terrific. Keep up the good work!"
2. JollyDoc's Shackled City

http://www.enworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=55180&page=1&pp=25
  • A continuation of Gfunk's Story Hour with new PCs! See what happens when a group of good characters led by a Trumpet Archon run through the Shackled City adventure path in Dungeon.
  • Tons of unique characters in 3.5 including a Trumpet Archon, Astral Deva, and pacificist Sorcerer (built from the Book of Exalted Deeds).
User Quotes:

  • Krellic
    • "Great tale so far."
  • Angcuru
    • "Again, Angcuru feels compelled to say: "Me like!":D"
  • UrsaMajor
    • "Wanted to say how much I am enjoying the story so far."
  • Lela
    • "JollyDoc, your combat sceans remind me of those written by R.A. Salvatore. Each attack flows from the next, easily pictured. Every move reflects just enough thought that the reader understands the various tricks and feints. I feel almost like I'm a part of the dance (in a non-combat, not painful kind of way). Excellent."
  • sithramir
    • "Keep up the spectacular work!"

Links to my story hours are all in my sig :)

Here are some details:

Company of the Random Encounter
The (mis)adventures of a sprawling and disparate group of vaguely-good-but-definitely-greedy adventurers, as they set out to make a name for themselves, kill lots of monsters, and - most important of all - make a lot of money in the process.

Captain Jarrek waits impatiently for the adventurers' attention. "Now that the Festival is over, we've had a chance to question him. Seems someone hired him and his mates to steal the bodies."

"Necromancer." Mantreus hazards.

"Evil Priest." Stormstrider counters.

"What did the guy look like?" Elspeth tries to keep things on track.

"He said he didn't see the man's face." Jarrek continues, "Always wore a hooded black robe, apparently."

"No problem, then." Mantreus is sarcastic, "Can't help but find him with a detailed description like that."

In Hextor's Name
The mission reports of Kull Redfist, Cleric of Hextor, as he brings the law of his church to the backward and disorganised village of Saltmarsh: for the villagers own good, of course.

The pathetic, spineless attitude of the villagers could not be allowed to continue. Faced with clear evidence that their homes are under risk of attack - an attack of which their so-called sheriff was unaware - their only response was to offer money for someone else to deal with the problem. To rely on a handful of outsiders to protect their homes. These were not people: they were sheep.

I demanded to know what the Council proposed to do, to provide for the security of the town. The mayor made some snivelling excuse about only having a handful of trained men. As if this was not a problem of their own making! The village has some hundred able-bodied adults, all of whom could - and should - have received a measure of training, long ago. I informed the council that I would not even consider their offer until they met my conditions ...

Q-Ship
1950s radio serials meet 1980s BBC Sci-Fi. It has dashing Space Captains, beautiful Venusian Princesses, absent-minded professors, and a cleanliness-obsessed robot. Not to mention atomic ray-guns. Q-Ship is even PirateCat approved - how cool is that?

"This is my guardian, Doctor Gustav, and his assistant, Archie." S'Ondra introduces the pair, though Fury seems oblivious to anyone but her. "The Doctor invented the Q-Drive, as you know, and Archie is indispensable to his work. As for myself, I am the official Venusian representative on the mission. Tell me, what was your function, again?"

"Well, Princess, I'll be the pilot." Fury smiles, "I'll take you for a ride you'll never forget."

S'Ondra ignores the double-entendre,

"A pilot, you say? I'd heard that these new Space Force ships are so nearly automated that they can be piloted by a trained monkey." Her tone suggests that she'd prefer the hypothetical simian be on the mission than Fury.

"I'm the best Space Force has to offer!"

"Really? I had no idea things were that bad. Budget cuts, again?"

What the Writers Are Saying

"Damn, man. You can write." - PirateCat

"An excellent reminder of what attracted me to D&D the first dang place. It's not just a good war-story to share over beers...it's a damn good read." - WizarDru

"...you have a gift with words." - Sepulchrave

What the Readers Are Saying

"As already mentioned it feels similar to Sepulchrave's story hour in terms of immaculate writing, originality and subtlety. And that's high praise indeed." - Dakkareth

"This is one of the Great Story Hours...and even if you were writing this in a vacuum, and not getting hits, it would still be worthy of the premium bookshelves in this genre." - dpdx

"Seriously Destan, that's the best single post I've read in an EN-World Story Hour." - Cinerarium

"...I think it pretty much stinks." - Destan's mom

What the Characters Are Saying

"This world is more gray than white, and more black than gray. Hopes fade with each setting of the sun. These are bleak times – hard times – and none who walk within this interminable twilight are untouched by sadness." - Poridel Poriden

"The world we live in, friend, is one of death. Outside the colors bleed away, warmth leaves, and the long night will soon fall. Death is everywhere and anywhere. It has always been, and always will be." - Highskull Krix

"So it was that we set the staff upon the rocks of that old temple. Thousands of virgins had been sacrificed there during the Age of Darkness, and I could hear their voices calling to us on the wind. I began to sing, gentlemen, to drown out their carnal pleas. I feared we would lose Kellus to their sultry promises – he has been long without companionship." - John of Pell

Savannah Knights Storyhour

A modern fantasy mystery set on an earth where the fey realm exists in tandem of ours, this story shows how a group of mundanes become part of the world of magic and solve one of the most sensational murder mysteries ever.

Savannah Knights was played back in the summer of 2000, using rumors of 3rd edition rules gleaned from this site before the actual books were even released. It's brief, just 17 chapters long, plus an epilogue, some fan fiction, and a few posts that describe the stopgap rules used for the setting since d20 Modern wasn't even envisioned yet. One of the few finished storyhours out there, this one is familiar with many ENWorld old-timers. Hopefully you'll give it a look.
