Burn Tokwith

The terror of the unfolding scene strikes like an ice pick to Burn's chest -- and yet some sliver of his larcenous heart wonders at the value of all that Ash...

"Repel boarders!" he shouts. Precariously he scampers down the rigging and throws himself at the skeletons with the machete pulled from his belt. Above his work remains half-done, the sails snapping in the wind, neither fully furled nor opened.

((Attack: Rolled a 19 - 2 Str = 17 for 2 damage))
((Defend: Rolled a 15 + 3 Agl = 18))

Sorry, I am not familiar with the rules so could you explain what you rolled? are we rolling d20s?

Sure. In Pirate Borg combat the player rolls both to attack and defend (in contrast to 5e, where the DM rolls for the enemies). Also instead of rolling against the enemy's AC, you roll against a standard Difficulty Rating (DR, the Borg equivalent of DC) of 12.

So to make a Melee attack, roll d20 and add/subtract your Strength modifier.
Or to make a Ranged attack, roll d20 and add/subtract your Presence modifier.

If the result is over 12, you hit the enemy. Then roll whatever damage die your weapon deals. In my case, a machete does d4 damage. I rolled a 2 for damage with my attack.

To defend, roll d20 and add/subtract your Agility modifier. If the result is 11 or less, you take damage. Armor can deduct the amount of damage you take but Medium and Heavy armor also adds to the DR which makes it harder to avoid the attack. So for example if you wear Medium armor, it adds +2 to the Defense DR (so you need to roll above 14) but it deducts d4 damage if you're hit.

(Also I usually play with the house rule that ties go to the defender. So you have to roll 13 or above to hit but 12 or above to defend.)

Does this make sense?

At his turn ((0)), Safari backs up to the main mast to keep his back protected. As the skeletons move closer he lunges desperately at them, chopping furiosly at their rib cages with his trusted runic machete.

((Attack with trusted runic weapon (needs 10 to hit). d20 roll = 18 - 0, so a hit. d6 damage = 5))
((Defense. d20 roll = 4 + 0, so he takes a hit))

As the skeletons board the ship, Groves tries to skewer one with Moby's Ruin. The harpoon goes through the undead's ribs and Desiree tries to pull it off-balance and overboard before it can board the Tarantula.

- Attack roll with Moby's Ruin(1d20+0): 11 (hit)
Damage(1d6+0): 6 Edit: Just realized that whaling harpoon does a d8 but I'll stick with that d6 damage, lol

- 1st Defense roll(1d20-1): 3 (fail)
Armour block roll(1d6): 3

- 2nd defense roll (two skellies, right?): 1d20-1= 17 (successful dodge)

I don't believe in the no-win scenario
Bautista moves to meet the undead pirates with purpose. "De volta às profundezas do inferno com você", he screams out as he swings wildly at the ghostly abominations before him.

Adelheid moves to engage the skeletons while drawing her two knives. Her first attack is wide off the mark, but the second one connects solidly.

First attack: d20 = 4, Miss
Second Attack, d20 = 19, Hit, D4 = 4 damage

Unfortunately, both skeletons hit her in return! She'll have to hope her armor can save her...

First dodge: 1d20 +1 = 6, Fails, 6 damage, d6 = 4 damage reduction, 2 points of damage sustained
Second Dodge: 1d20 +1 = 10, Fails, 4 damage, d6 = 5 damage reduction, no damage
