Pixie LA=4?

Yes, a Pixie in the party will make some kinds of encounters a joke. The other side of the coin is that the Pixie PC can easily be killed in encounters that are cakewalks for the party.
Yup. Most ECL 5 characters would laugh at a level 3 sorcerer (and for good reason; its pretty much the weakest CR 3 encounter ever), but the Pixie Sorcerer or Rogue will go down in one casting of Magic Missile if she doesn't resist it. And if you're facing a level appropriate challenge, the Pixie is in even more danger. Anything that can penetrate its SR or DR will knock it out, pretty much guaranteed X(

If it is correct, just how do you kill a Pixie/Sorceror 8 (ECL 12) with 28 point buy in stats?

Apparently, judging from the responses (and my own experiences with another player's Sorcerer Pixie) - Q: How do you kill a Pixie Sorcerer 8? A: Very easily.

Not only do high LA creatures like the pixie make poor arcanists but the loss of 4 levels worth of HPs in this case (yes, even if they are only d4+Con) makes for an arcanist that very easily goes *squish*.

Not to mention the effects high winds and grapples have on such a character. Most of the time such a character will hide and runaway from nasty encounters, often leaving a disgruntled party behind that have take some serious losses when trying to fight the encounter 1 character....um, short. ;)

How is your L3 Sorcerer targeting the invisible Pixie? Now, an L3 Diviner could do the job, but not a Sorcerer.

IMHO, the real issue with Pixie Sorcerers is that an arcane spellcaster can do all the stuff that a Pixie can with a few more levels and the right spell choices. Greater Invisibility? Flight? Not much of a problem.

Pixie Rogue seems more synergistic -- Evasion saves you from area effects that are most likely to kill you, and being invisible is great when you have lots of Sneak Attack dice. So I'd use that as the "acid test" for LA rather than Sorcerer.

Also, starting at 10th level or so, a large percentage of whatever you'll be fighting will be able to see invisible creatures.

Dragons have Blindsense even as CR3 Wyrmlings :)

You're absolutely right about the Rogue. Anyway, I assumed the level 3 sorcerer had some sort of expendable item, like a glitterdust scroll or something, which to be fair, its possible he doesn't.

Well, at Level 12, where our particular party is at, a Sorceror 8 pixie can have 22 hp average plus 32 Con (4x8) for 54 hp. Hardly a pushover, although getting the 18 Con can be problematic on 28 point buy. There are ways to kill pixies if you can see them. See Invisibility and a Lesser Acid Orb can do the job.

Well, an empowered Fireball (just one example and nothing unusual at that level) deals 52 damage on average. And you cannot protect against everything. ;)

With magic items, an 18 Con is a fair assumption by that level.

if you really are playing a pixie spellslinger

Then constitution is your #1 priority, period.

Spend most of your gold on con buffs.

Use your point-buy points on con.

Also buy various items of element resistance.

Have Freedom of Movement up 24 hours a day (if only!). Just to stop the heavy wind/grappling thing. (does this work against heavy wind? I guess so??)

I'd still not like to play one.

54 hit points at level 12... your typical Human wizard will have 37+48 = 85 (modified 18 con). Ye olde Dwarven/Gnomish wizard easily has a con=20 or 22, thus is even that much safer.

Gnomish wizard 12 vs. pixie wizard 8?

I don't think it's at all out of line. The Gnomish wizard (minimally) as powerful as the pixie, and some (I) would argue way better.

[this is particularly the case becuase when I play spellcasters because I prioritize constitution and base spellcasting stat equally]
