Plains Indian adventures

There's a new Native American articles in Dragon. Including in Dragon #205. There's an article by David Howery called the People.
Wow, that's a good one! This was always my favorite kind of Dragon article, a well-researched subject presented in a way that would be useful for D&D players.

I think the poster may have been thinking of issue #32's "Ghost Dance" (2e) by David Howery, a classic Plains Indians adventure set among the Rovers of the Barrens of the Greyhawk setting.
yep. I loved Holloway's illustrations for that one.
"Ghost Dance" by David Howery is definitely worth checking, as are his other adventures that appeared in Dungeon. Even though they're all nominally set in Greyhawk, they are not your standard medieval European fanstasy setting. My favorites are those set in Hepmonaland, near Fort Thunder ("The Elephant's Graveyard," "The Leopardy Men," "Rogue," and "The Land of Men with Tails").
thanks. :)

well, 'new' back in '94... :)

Though it's not Plains Indian, there is a series of fantasy books written by a Cherokee:

It's VERY strange - you won't recognize any of the races or anything, because it Cherokee mythology. The books starts almost like a kid's book, but by the end of the series, it's gut wrenching tear jerking stuff - he's retelling the Train of Tears in a fantasy world. I can't recommend it enough.

Also also, if you can find a 2e copy of Legends and Lore, there is a section pertaining to Indian mythos and culture with some sample deities.

The 2E Legends & Lore is available as a free rtf file from WotC in the Previous Edition Dungeons & Dragons Downloads There's also some Maztica stuff.

David Howery wrote some more stuff too: David Howery :: Pen & Paper RPG Database

You'll also find plenty of stuff on the Rovers of the Barrens from Greyhawk on canonfire:
Canonfire! - Religion, Myth, and Ritual Among the Rovers of the Barrens, Part 1
Canonfire! - Religion, Myth, and Ritual Among the Rovers of the Barrens, Part 2
Canonfire! - Living Greyhawk Gazetteer Addendum: The Bitter North, Part III
