Planar books

Monte, since the topic's come up, I want to congratulate you and everyone else who worked on BCD. This is the first RPG book in a long time that I enjoyed reading cover-to-cover both for the sheer number of plot ideas it inspired and for the quality of the reading itself. :)

Any chance of a BCD II at any point? After all the topic is pretty much limitless.

Well, I know everything Ray and Wolfgang did then, and two of the ones that he said colin did, they did. Which means that the two that you said Colin didn't do, Monte had to.

Which means I have to guess which two Colin did and which five monte did. I whittled this down a little by guessing that the ones with the most ToH entries Monte will have done, since he loves that book based on some threads and comments. ;)

The rest, I'll have to guess.

Here's my somewhat educated guess:
  • Colin - The Maze, Faraenyl (both known), Carrigmor, Burning Shadows of K'in Lin (Guesses)
  • Monte - Deleur, Teveral, Violet, Curnorost (known), Adivarel, Sleeping God's Soul, Mountains of Chaos?, Venomheart?, Primal Gardens of Ygaron (guesses, though I am slightly leaning towards Colin having done this from comments he had about his methodology)
  • Ray - Dendri and Palpatur (known)
  • Wolfgang - Ouno, Lizard Kingdoms, Ten Courts of Hell (known)

All right, except I did Kin-Li'in, and Colin did Mountains of the Five Winds (which what I think you meant)

BCD II is certainly a possibility. Thanks for all the kind words!

Given the cool factor in BCD and the idea farm that it is I'd buy a BCDII in an instant, sight unseen. While I've never used much material or plot hooks directly out of a book, preferring to create my own planar goodies and plots, if I started a new planar campaign and decided to break out of the Planescape mold, I'd certainly look heavily at the ideas as presented in BCD.

Seriously you guys have succeeded in a planar book where WotC has largely failed in 3rd ed: having material that inspires me and isn't more stat blocks and PrCs than it is descriptive material. You outdid my expectations and you deserve to smile for it.

Good to hear. BCD is easily my favorite book of those that you've released this year. I hope sales are strong enough to make a second volume worth your time.

Phil-

I'm sorry to hear that the other two installments in your demiplane line aren't going to be released. I really liked the Clockwork Tower. While I haven't purchased the first primer, it is budgeted in the next paycheck. :)

I have BCD and Edge of Infinity. I find BCD very useful for as a selection of alternate primes and other unusual planes. The seasonal plane (Faerenyl?) will be featured in an upcoming game of mine.

Edge of Infinity is a bit more limited. For a Scarred Lands game, it is an exceptional resource. Mostly, it renames and retools the inner planes from a Scarred Lands perspective. The Great Wheel as such is done away with, but the new outer planes bear a striking resemblance to the former. Not all of the Great Wheel planes have a counterpart, only those that the gods of Scarn have inhabited / created. I have found the Zodiac planes to be very useful for my game, however, and is the primary reason I purchased the book. These are 16 demiplanes strongly tied to the Scarn zodiac and feature interesting denizens and assistance that can be gained from going there.
