Planecape recommended viewing

We're part of a Planescape campaign with a new player. We started bouncing around film and TV titles to help him capture the mood, and that got me thinking... what would you recommend viewing to set the mood for Planescape?

My three faves so far (because all things come in threes):
Gangs of New York (for the Hive);
Enemy at the Gates (for the Bloodwar);
Casablanca (for the moral ambiguity).

Dark City, for both the mix of inhabitants and for the enclosed city idea, also the strangers you can sort of extrapolate them to the Lady of Pain.
Avalon, for a twilight city that seems to be populated solely by adventurers and those who cater to them.
Vidocq, for the feel of the city.

Mind you, that's all Sigil related, but for me, the defining element of Planescape is Sigil.

Movies?

Shackle the players to a computer, glue their noses to the screen, and make them play Planescape: Torment. After that, have an open and honest roundtable discussion of what they liked and didn't like. Anyone who doesn't like anything at all about the game can be fed to rabid alligators and everyone else can start the campaign.

In my unbiased opinion.

Man, that would work just fine.

Do they have to be rabid?....... Would a somewhat testy crocodile work?

You know, I have one simple request, and that is to have alligators with frickin' rabies! Now, evidently, my expidiously retreating colleague informs me that that can't be done. Can you remind me what I pay you people for? Honestly, throw me a bone here!

How aboot:

The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, and Time Bandits, both by Terry Gilliam. They have just the right themes of interdimensional travel, exploring new worlds, fighting (or running away from) God(s), and wacky steampunkish or renaissance cities and decor. That's planescape for me.

PS: can't wait for Beyond Countless Doorways, Monte, it looks too good for words. But please make it as fluffy as a pillow, just like the original PS.

Good ones. (Actually, almost any Terry Gilliam movie works.)

Thanks. I hope you like it. It's not a mechanics book at all.
