Planer's Handbook: a freaking waste of money!

kolikeos

First Post
i just added the planer's handbook to my growing collection of D&D books. after taking a very long look in it i find that it was a FREAKING WASTE OF MY MONEY! be warned: do not lay your hands on this unhuly tome of kishke. i used to like all the plane-cocerning books, i very much liked the planescape setting for 2e, but this one is a complete kish!

*end of rant*

Why?

I haven't seen the book yet so other then the name I know almost nothing about it. What made it so bad? Was it because you were thinking planescape and it wasn't? I knowmore then a few people that have voiced that opinion.

the first thing i noticed was the bad art, but that rarely matters to me. then i saw some stupiditys in the new races: the baumman are just SO stupid! and there was something very wrong with the description of the spikers DR
2/bludgeoning: a spiker's spiny skin grants resistance to buldgeoning...
WTF? and then there is the matter with that the book provides absalutly no infermation about any of the planes, it is as though they assume the reader knows everything about the planes and this is just some extra. well, they sure did not say it was extra, those wotc losers!

Its not meant to replace Manbual of the Planes....that's were the info on the planes is.

Why are the Bauman stupid? Remember I don't have the book so I have no idea what they are. What's wrong with the DR?

I don't have the book either, but from what kolikeos posted above, the DR type and description are contradictory. DR 2/bludgeoning means bludgeoning weapons penetrate it while slashing/piercing do not, but the description says that it resists bludgeoning weapons.

And kolikeos, could you be a little more careful with the spelling? I saw the thread title reference to "Planer's Handbook" and thought you were complaining about the PHB :)

You missed Chapter 7: Planar Sites.

If you want to know about the actual planes, you should pick up Manual of the Planes. Which this book is a companion to and not a replacement for.

I like it.

Aaron.

It doesn't really add much to "Planar" campaigns, IMO. Too much fluff and not enough crunch. New races (does anybody use these?) and bizzare class substitution levels. Feats, spells, pretige classes... pretty much the standard fare. For me, if more of the book was like the last chapter (which is, to be fair, fifty pages), which actually expands upon the planes , the whole thing would have been much more worthwhile. Of course, YMMV.

[Edit: apparently fluff and crunch mean something else: so, to clarify my post, fluff = rubbish, crunch = useful. I won't change it, as that'd make a mockery of some of the posts that follow :heh: ]

Okay you want more cruich but then the crunch they provide you complain about. Also, you say you want more descriptions of the planes, but that's fluff and you want crunch. I'm confused...... :\
