[Planescape] PS: A New Era NPC's

I'm A Banana

Potassium-Rich
I'm following through on my GD thread about "future planescape" and posting a few complex NPC's that make use of a lot of the new options the setting gives.

The first: a duergar Akashic member of the Dust (what they call the Dustmen in the new era...as in "Born from Dust and to Dust we shall return") who talks to the voices in his head...

Duroff looks good. Nice format. Very detailed. I'm looking forward to seeing what else you've got.

I had hoped that in "the future" certain races had managed to evolve enough to get past the 20' move per round restriction. I guess you can't force evolution (sigh). ;)

Next up: Sidae, a stealer of holy tracts who wants information to be free from the Church's iron grip. He's a Human Archivist.

A bit about The New Era's Athar: They're more militant and more zealous about the Great Unknown now. The current leader, a Githyanki Paladin of Freedom, has taken the faction in a decidedly crusader-like direction, specifically openly waging conflict on various Evil (especially Lawful Evil) churches throughout the more Neutral planes. They're working to get the Temple of Hextor thrown out of Sigil, for instance. They're not doing it by resorting to outlawing religion, merely trying to systematically dismantle the churches that prop it up: people are free to worship Hextor, but the Church is on the verge of becoming illegal for "a hideout for wicked and illegal activities." Specifically, they're in trouble for protecting the known terrorist Claude Randelle, a member of the Sodkillers faction who bombed the House of Hope and Mercy hospital in the Lady's ward. The Athar seem to have the upper hand in this particular battle, and they're pouring all their resources into it, but other churches fear that they will come for them next. Evil is in a position of trying to get along with each other for survival, to unite against the Athar. Good has remained mostly silent on the issue: many view it as they view the Blood War in that as long as their enemies aren't hurting innocents, they're free to hurt each other as much as they want. Still, some are very suspicious: the Athar's ultimate goal certainly doesn't stop at the evil churches. This could just be a distraction from something else, too, an attempt to gain attention while they strike a truly painful blow to worshippers accross the planes...

This is really getting me interested in the faction affiliation system you use. The same as in PHB2? I'd love to have a look at how it works, especially what ranks you came up with, and which ways to increase standing.

Next up: Flesh-Of-My-Flesh, an Aasimar who is bound to a Demon through the Acolyte of the Skin prestige class. A member of the Harmonium, she embraces the evil that is conquering her...and may do it out of a deeper love than any know...

The system I use is the Affiliations system from the PHBII. JustKim, a poster on these boards, posted a collection of the original factions as affiliations, and I'm using that as a baseline.

Found the thread you were referring to. Looking good to me :).

Re: Flesh-Of-My-Flesh: I absolutely love the concept of an aasimar struggling to contain his or her evil nature. One minor gripe only: The name "Sid" for an elf strikes me as somewhat odd ... but it might very well be an abbreviation for a longer, more "traditionally elvish" sounding kind of name. Or the naming conventions in your campaign differ radically from mine ;).
