If you love that, I think you will really enjoy this, during the Mycene era of Ancient Greece Zeus was not seen as the head of the Pantheon, Poseidon was.
No, I was strictly speaking about Theros. I am relatively well versed in all the ups and downs of Greek mythology and even more aware than most that what we actually know from written text is less than half of the reality of the worship and beliefs of the times.

Someone who gets Ancient Greek Religion, excellent!

It's sooo often treated like some kind like a cross between a soap opera and the Avengers, with little understand or care for the spiritual naunce and complexity!

To be fair, it is hard to cover the breadth and depth of spirituality in mythologies and religions under most contexts, let alone a RPG book. No to mention, I imagine some of that nuance and complexity would be lost in setting where the gods literally provide divine magic, boons, and walk among mortals. So I personally wouldn't expect the depth and variety we see in RL mythology / religion in such a fantasy setting.

The only images I could find of Hades with a bident were much later than classical, such as the one below. Though all the images I found of him with a bident he was seated or reposed. not aggressive or in action.

Also, this classical statue appears to have the head of the staff missing, it could have been a bident

like this more modern rendition suggests:

I mean, if you just put "ancient greece hades statue" into Google image search you'll find loads that meet my description re: "action poses" (and they're all renaissance or later - so much later, like 1800s).

And everything you have there is either:

A) Renaissance or later, so has little to do with actual "classical traditions", as I said.

B) Is actually of PLUTO, not Hades, who is associated, weakly, with the Bident.

If you look into actual Ancient Greek imagery of Hades specifically, you will quickly see he is always seated or in repose and never has a bident, though very often a staff. Pluto is obviously closely related, but has somewhat different traditions associated with him, as is often the case with Greek/Roman versions of those gods.

Just to clarify, I agreed with you that the imagery (that I could find) of Hades/Pluto with a bident was Renaissance or more recent. Not sure why you are making that point again and implying I didn't agree with your viewpoint.

That being said, I just did a search for: "ancient greece hades statue" and I got the images below. No action posses. I am sure google takes recent history and the like into account, so that is probably the reason for the difference. I just thought I would point it out as I was not trying to imply you are incorrect, just that my very surface level search didn't get the results you suggested.

EDIT: and many of these aren't even ancient Greek statues!

Yeah you're getting different images from what I was - but I think I managed to find a keyword which eliminated all the tat/tourist crap, and I can't remember what it was. Either that or they changed the algorithm, which they do frequently, sadly!

well, I think the search function takes into account recent history and I was recently searching Hades and bidents
