I mostly DM - of the current 5 - all have run something, not always successfully -
The other experianced DM runs a game on another day, with two of the people from my group.
He has run games for us, but mostly to fill in, or when I burnt out he had someone else is DMing his other group. and ran us through CoSQ.
The youngest player ran a fine D&D game, but burnt out fast. Her husband ran d20Modern, poorly, and the last ran a oneshot Paranoia - which started well but lacked a finish.

I am the best long term DM the group has, and prefer it to playing. I like the stimulation and the amount of work that goes into a game. Last time I took more than a month off, I created a new campaign world. I think I may be an addict.

I have to admit I am never the best one at d20 rules at the table. Even when I DM, I rely on someone who is better at the rules for clarification. There are usually two of them who help me. I'm more focused on the story and the characters.

Out of our group of 4 core people, we have 2 DMs. I'm not one of them, but I do count myself as a potential (if unlikely) DM. I figure I could run a D&D game, I just don't feel like it.

I do, however, plan on GMing a Shadowrun game for our group in a few months, once a few more of the supplements come out.

Hey, you can't be posting. We're still waiting on that city book you're working on!

Hmm, I've never had the problem of a group not having anyone who wanted to DM. Sure, there have been members of various groups who I've not seen DM, but nobody I know of who flatly said they'd never do it. My problem has lately been finding enough people locally to game. And since I enjoy DMing, I guess I'll never have to worry about a lack of a DM preventing me from gaming.

Fair enough. I find that playing in the games of others has been one of the best tools for improving my own skills as a GM. But is far from the only tool so good luck with the continued improvement.

I found DMing PbP improved my Live DMing skills

It's like praticing in slow-motion to get the basics down. (Never mind finding a rule in the book in 5 or 10 or 15 minutes, I can take 24 hours to look up all applicable rules in several books and no one notices a time lag.)

Interesting. I never really considered that. I guess I'd like to think I've got the "basics" down already but this could be a very useful exercise (not to mention fun) for a novice GM.
