Yikes! Regen 10? Pretty crazy!
On the other hand, that's the only method of healing he has, and he needs to worry a lot about being caught in the cleric's field of fire. Turn Undead's not so great when a PC is one of them... Our campaign's a bit high on the power scale for our level, but within that context it's worked pretty well.

so break down what a lich is. an undead arcanist. you could alternatively make him a revenant with a few tweaks for flavor it gives him the undead feel. unless he just wants to be a lich because of the power bump. if thats the case you have a different problem all together

I'd say do all three.

Have him make a revenant wizard, artificer, or other arcane class. Have him take the Death's Blessing feat, which in addition to other perks means he is no longer considered a living creature. Then have him get and use the Lich Transformation ritual at level 14. Then have him take the Archlich epic destiny.

That's about as lich-like as you can possibly get as a PC, I think.

Edit: Oh wait. I missed the point of the first post -- this is an existing level 14 character. Well, Lich Transformation plus Archlich epic destiny should be pretty good, I think! But if you don't like the lich template or it doesn't fit, tweak it to suit, maybe drawing from revenant race features and feats for inspiration.

Title: Player wants to be a lich? Woah! Then I read the post and found out it was his PC.

Yeah, the Arch-lich ED is there specifically for those players, I think. I'm just surprised we haven't seen the Emo-Vampire-Lord ED yet.

Tell your player DON'T DO IT.

Rituals performed in D&D don't necessarily work in real life.

And besides, if he doesn't come back as a lich, it will tarnish the reputation of D&D even further.

Not that actually coming back as a lich would be any better.

Regardless, friends don't let friends attempt to perform the Ritual of Endless Night and store their soul in a phylactery.

I found one of the two Kidneys of Vecna.

It's in a box underneath my bed.

I'm saving it for a time when I ever have difficulty peeing. ;)

Did you know that the most favored servant of Vecna is the one who wears the **** of Vecna?

Sure, Vecna sees all through the Eye, and gains the memories of the Hand, but the **** of Vecna allow Vecna to inherit any and all carnal knowledge acquired by its bearer.

Simply put, anything the **** ****s, Vecna has too by sheer proxy.
