Players getting "flaky"

I would leave the night as Wednesday. But the next session, open it up to the group. If the rest of teh group does not care, and the one guy that only plays Wed, and the other two players want it changed- make the call to keep Wed.

If you move it, you will have basically tossed out that one guy who did absolutely nothing wrong. He was just playing and all of a sudden *BAM!* he can no longer play... tragic...

I agree with the last post - don't penalize the person who did nothing and can continue to play. If others are changing their schedules of their own accord (aka want to work that night...) that's not your fault, and hence you can't do a thing. Organize a graceful exit for their characters and keep the door open for them to rejoin at any time....

Let me just say that I'm an advocate of a more flexible style of scheduling. Our group has one person in charge of scheduling. We play only on Friday nights, 9 PM to 2 AM or Saturdays 12 PM to 12 AM. Everyone submits their free days to our scheduling person each month, and she sets up the days for the month, usually we get in at least 1 Friday and 1 saturday. Some months we get more in, some less. But - this method works for us - most of us have lives and cannot play during the week at all. Our policy is to not play if 2 or more people cannot make it. If one person cannot make AND says it is ok - we go on without them. Otherwise, we have a "pickup" game that someone else DM's with pre-fab characters.

Sunday afternoon is a very bad time IMO. Hangovers, superbowls, granny's brunch. It's really the worst time to set a game. Wednesday is a no brainer IMO. Perfect game night.

We are all college students so week nights are out and playing on sunday stops us from having hang overs on monday so it's the best day for us. I mean how can anyone play on wendsday everyone's mind is on what they will be doing that weekend and no one is focused on the game.

Careful on your generalizations.

As a fellow college-goer, I find Sundays to be the best, but only afternoon, so people can still do their homework.

Hey, stuff happens. But I'd say that you should set a day, and keep it on that day, and say that if you'd like to play, show up on that day at that time. It can be moved, but after being set, it should probably stay. Move your schedules around it. Request Wend off of work, and prioritize...the game may not be the most important, but because it's so difficult to get everyone to meet at the same time, the few times that could happen should take priority over something that could probably be done at a different time.

IMHO, of course. It's a sticky situation.

That's not flaky.

Flaky is my players who don't call ahead to say they will be no shows.

Oh and doing your homework in college, I never even bought the books after the 1st semester, I'm impressed with your ability to focus and study.

Maybe flaky isn't the right word...

O.k.

So maybe flaky isn't the right word...but.

It's not so much that things changed. The players are choosing to do things differently and just expect the rest of the group to change to accommodate them.

By the way.. There are 5 players in the group, and 8 characters (counting cohorts and such). The players represent 3 characters between them.

Currently I'm looking at starting a new campaign Wed. nights that doesn't include the two players, and taking the opportunity to introduce a couple of new players to the game. The other players have expressed interest in a new campaign, but would like to finish a few things in the current campaign.

The current campaign is nearing what I had planned as the ending. I'll likely move it to Sundays for a while since that works for most of the players and see what happens. But I'm not sure...

Just my 2 cents real quick...

If the two wanting to change are doing this based on their choices (not ones out of their control) then leave it as is until the campaign ends.

When your ready to start the new game, take a new poll of the people interested in playing to determine the best day. Hopefully at that point a better day that allows everyone to play can be worked out.

Since you have 8 PCs and they represent 3 between them, losing them would not really hurt your campaign. The game is designed around having a group of 5 adventurers. So you are still good.

I say- as before- let them go and continue the game. If they cant make it cause they have other plans- then oh well.
