Now, for those not in my game. . .

Do spellbooks radiate a magical aura noticable with detect magic.

No, a spellbook itself is not magical and does not show up on detect magic.

Of course if there are any spells or long-running effects on the book, like explosive runes or secret page, those do radiate magic as normal.

Why would it matter if your players saw the information in this thread? If one of them is a wizard, he probably knows if his own spellbook radiates magic or not.

Doh! Because they then know that the book they saw/see is a spellbook (maybe they could not look in the book for some reason)? ;)

My guess is his players have found a stack of books and he needs to know if a detect magic will show that one of the books is a spellbook, but he doesn't want to tip off his players that there's a spellbook in the stash.

My understanding is that spellbooks don't radiate magic unless, as AuraSeer pointed out, there is some magic spell/protection affecting it.

Just playing devil's advocate here. Comprehend Languages doesn't allow you to read a spellbook, only Read Magic (or a successful spellcraft check) does. Based on the text of RM, it seems to indicate that the writing in a spellbook is magical.

As an aside, which ever way you decide, I assume you will tell anyone playing a wizard which way it works?

Not necessarily. Comprehend languages also won't let you understand the meaning of a calculus equation or an electronic schematic, and neither of those are innately magical.
