The only character I've run as player strrived to become a Order of the Bow Initiate; but the DM's mantle was back on my shoulders before he qualified.

As DM I don't use PrCs for my NSCs, becuase the extra effort is not worth it. My players are not so knowledgable about the rules and possibilities that the surprise factor of a new PrC would be measurable.

The players themselves believe that PrCs are a curse. :\ Whenever one works to qualify for one, the character tends to bite the dust just before she reaches the goal.

I currently have a cleric that took a single level of Heirophant just for the divine reach special ability. That character also has 5 levels of Master of Radience from Liber Mortis.

I've got another cleric that has 5 levels of Eye of Horus-Re from Forgotten Realms. When I get a little higher level I may also take a single level of Heirophant with that character.
The far-reaching ability may indeed be worth to take a level in Hierophant. However, what I understand is that you just took one level of that class for the ability not for the role play of Hierophant. This is not to criticize you, but to criticize the class that clearly has no flavor at all, with a name that reminds of old 1e high level druids that were so different and much more flavorful (even if unplayable as far as XP go).

[BTW: my grip with Hierophant has to do with the fact that I will soon release a short (and free) netbook on Celtic Druidism, begun a so long time ago and never finished. There are a couple things I had to finish, including adding an Archdruid prestige class. I thus got a look at the Hierophant to get ideas, but meh... :( ]

other.

had a DM force a prc on me.

Messiahic Avatar.... gods was it broken. pun intended.

edit: as a one shot. i played a blackguard. that was fun. :]

Only played one prestige class, a spellsword from Tome and Blood. Not terribly excited about it, but it was relatively easy to qualify for, and I wanted to try a PrC at least once.

My warriormage character has levels in both eldritch knight and the revised spellsword in Complete Warrior. He's certainly more competent and well-rounded than a pure fighter/wizard multiclass would be. I think that next time I want to do this kind of a hybrid, though, I'll go for cleric or psychic warrior.

I have played a couple, but none from the list. The Commander from the Wheel of Time book springs to mind, as well as a home-brew Cleric PrC designed by yours truly (based heavily on Rad. Servant of Pelor).

As a GM, I've used most of those.

As a player... well, my last character was a Shadwobane Inquesitor from Compleate Adventurer and most of my others have been straight single classed characters.

I've played both an eldritch knight and a loremaster. Considered a dragon disciple, archmage, and duelist but ultimately did not go for those.

In the party I'm running a charachter who plays an arcane trickster just picked up his first level of archmage so he can teleport without error as a spell like ability.

There is an NPC loremaster who is the mentor of the party cleric, and NPCs have been described as assassins, shadowdancers, and blackguards. Although I agree with Psion, unholy warriors are better than blackguards for making NPCs, it is just easier to stat out a straight class character and unholy warriors are cool. If I hadn't lent my book of fiends to my brother I'd be statting out the BBEG's bodyguard as one, but I'll make do with a paladin of Tyrrany from UA if I don't get it back before they get to her.

The heirophant screams epic level niche class only. In Gar'udok there is also an epic prc for necromancers that gives no spellcasting.

I am almost entirely just a GM these days. The only prestige class I have used from the list was Assassin and Mystic T. Both worked well.

Currently doing a Kensai Fighter (C Warrior) and I like that a lot.

I played a dwarven Dualist/Shadowdancer. I found the dualist more powerful and generally more useful than the shadow dancer.
