I've been toying (literally
) with the idea of using many of the combat rules from the D&D Minis game in my next D&D campaign. The things I especially like are:
1. No 5 foot step. I think that this one change alone would greatly speed up combats. It also gets rid of the annoying and unrealistic archer who can move backwards, reload his bow, and shoot an opponent who is trying to chop him to bits at the same time.
2. No Withdrawel. When you're stuck in, you're stuck in. Want to reatreat? Take an AOO.
3. Reach weapons do not threaten AOO on non-adjacent squares. This makes makes combat against large critters and reach weapons a lot simplier to run.
What problems might I run into with such changes? What other things might I steal from the minis game to make combats simplier?
