Playing in Person Is Just Better (for me)

In team F2F all the way. Tried online play during pandemic and it just didn't do it for me. Between online game and no game, i'll choose no game.

But, for me and my group, our primary reason for playing is hanging out with friends and having fun. Yes, logistics of in person games are harder, but, i wanna hang out with my friends. Shoot the naughty word, make bad jokes, roll some dice and play pretend. Second thing is, we all stare at screens for 8-10 hours per day just for work. I don't wanna stare at screen in my free time, i try to move away from screens as much as i can.

I have tried so hard to make online play work but I just dont understand it. I feel like people who play online and people who play in person have created two massively different game cultures to the point that if you play online, in person games are likely just as bad to you as online games seem to me.

Naw. I played in person for decades, and while it'd be inconvenient, could do it again and enjoy it. I just find online play more convenient and provides some advantages (some of which I was faking before I went online like using a TV and a VTT to display maps and move around tokens).

I live in the boonies, so it's tough to play in person. Thanks to the pandemic some family/friends went online with their game, so I'm able to play regularly again. I definitely prefer playing in person, but playing online has gotten me back into gaming again consistently.
This right here! I’ll take any gaming I can get, but prefer in person.

VTTs and google hangouts make due though, and definitely have a place.

I know that feeling. I'm only 20 miles outside of the nearest city of note, but that's a nasty bit of a drive in the winter. (Not that it's looking like winter yet. Maybe in a couple weeks.)

Also, welcome to the community!

Totally agree with you. However, I can understand that some online tools help with heavy-rules games, but I still did not got involved enough to leverage them.
