Will the D&D Insider selections be random?

No. David Noonan (who seems to be high up in the playtest process) stated in the Episode 15 podcast that the selections will NOT be random.

There will be an application process that will appear in a page on DnDInsider. Playtesters will be selected from the 'applicant pool' of those who fill out the application and meet the criteria.

So the official ENWorld playtest group is:
Crothian, Rystil Arden, Hypersmurf, Bront, Thanee, and Piratecat?
Close! If it went by post count, it'd actually be Crothian, Crothian, and Crothian. Then it would become a legacy thing that would fall on his heritors.

ps - The only feedback they'll get from him is "Not enough literate oozes/Mandalorian armor helmets."

I hope that my gaming group is chosen. I hope it isn't entirely random, though. I suppose at this point, patiently awaiting the link for the D&D Insider is the only way... :)

I'm guessing playtesting experience is a qualification they will be looking for. Nuts. I think that's probably the only thing that hurts me.

That'd be fun game, I bet! ;)
Dude, that group would be awesome. I mean, Piratecat is Piratecat (which speaks for itself), and Hypersmurf, as we found out this Gencon, is pure win, not to mention the others! With that group, they could probably feed us 2e again and claim it was 4e and we'd still have a fantastic game.

Yeah, I know the RPGA choices were not random. Still, I kind of wish they were. Would have given me a better chance. I know I haven't done enough to stand out and there aren't enough slots to go around.
