Please critique this subrace: Glimmer Elf

Farland

Galan (Glimmer Elves)

The capital of the Elhil is the hidden Summervale, or Gloralion in High Speech. It is the very antithesis of the heart of evil in Farland, the Wintervale. The Elhil named it thus to signify the undying opposition of good to evil. This secret city is the home of the Gloran or "Glimmer Elves." Dwelling so close to the Holy Swan of the Elhil, the Galan have basked in its magical energies for millenia, and it has changed them. They have grown more high-minded and proud than the typical Elhil; their concerns are no longer so much for the forests and the open skies that are beloved of the rest of their race; they care most for the pursuit of knowledge and the attainment of aesthetic perfection.

Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom or Charisma score increases by 1 (your choice).

Elf Weapon Training. You have proficiency with the longsword, shortsword, shortbow, and longbow.

Touched by the Swan. You have advantage on either Wisdom or Charisma saving throws against magic, depending on which ability score you chose to increase.

Let the Power Shine Forth.
You can muster the light of the holy swan that shines within you to help you influence others or to show you the path. If you chose to increase your wisdom, you gain advantage on a Wisdom (Insight) check; if you chose to increase your charisma, you gain advantage on a Charisma (Persuasion) or Charisma (Intimidate) check. You cannot Let the Power Shine Forth again until you have finished a long rest.

Sounds ok, I guess. Nice flavor. Certainly not overpowered.

My only nit would be if the Cha. boosted elf gets to use their ability for 2 different checks, then I'd let the Wis. elf do the same: Insight and Perception are my picks.

Or, you could just make them any/all Cha. or Wis. checks. Is there some reason you didn't want to do that? Seems a bit "bigger" magicky wise to me...which I like, but might not be what you're going for.

On a side note, can I just mention how much I hate that every elf subrace has to detail its own "Elf Weapon Training" just because/so the f--in' drow can have their few special things. Elf Weapon Training could easily have been put under the regular "Elf" traits...all elves're good with long/short swords/bows...with drow just having their own lil' special sauce replacements like everyone likes. Neither here nor there. Just bugs me.

PS: Welcome to ENworld. Have some XP.

Thanks for the comments, Steeldragons. I initially thought I'd give them advantage on all Che and wis based checks respectively, but I didn't want them to be too powerful. Maybe it isn't though.

And yes, I totally agree about the stupid weapon proficiencies.

Sounds good. I might grant proficiency with Insight, Persuasion or Intimidate rather than grant advantage once a day (or do both... once a day seems kinda weak).

Also, I might grant advantage on all saving throws vs. illusions and enchantments rather than on Wis or Cha saves vs. magic. It achieves nearly the same thing but it has a bit more flavor (imho).

Also, just a thought, maybe they would be really good at appraising art objects? because they are into "aesthetic perfection".
