Please help! GNOMES

I am running my first session in a homebrew world I came up with. I originally had planned to leave the gnomes alone but a player described his gnome character. Long story short.... Space Gnomes! Now I need to change out the Forest Gnomes ability to speak to animals. Please help

Due to a technological mishap generations ago, Space Gnomes all are "cursed" with a permanent reverse gravity effect. Without ritual magical tethering to the earth, lodestone boots, worship of Segojan Earthcaller, or some other trick, they launch into the stratosphere! Adventuring Space Gnomes often use a rope system to tie-off to a burly buddy just in case their preferred method for staying earth-bound fails. They've also learns a few tricks allowing them to briefly defy gravity – the player can explain this however he or she likes, but it amounts to being able to cast jump (self only) once per short or long rest.

Spacecunning: When in open space you always know the direction of the nearest galactic centre. In addition, you have advantage on checks made to recall or discern the nature of spatial anomalies.

Enough is ENOUGH! I have had it with these paladinloving gnomes on this paladin loving space ship! Everybody strap in! I'm about to open some air locks.

(I don't know why, but this line popped into my head. Loki might have hacked my brain, I don't know.)

I appreciate all the help. I forgot to say that the gnomes crash landed generation ago. I ended up giving them Dancing Lights at will. It seems to fit
