The party (6 10th level PCs) just rescued an NPC from imprisonment. However the NPC is magically poisoned and they need to get him to another NPC several days away for help. To make it worse, the baddies are pursuing them and they are also waiting for them (though the PCs dont know it yet).
So I was thinking of making the whole pursuit a skill challenge that starts right after the initial clash which clues the PCs to the fact they are being chased.
So far I have picked the Primary skills: Nature, Endurance, Perception, Stealth, History, Athletics and Acrobatics; as well as the Secondary Skills: Arcana, Heal, Insight and Religion.
Also I have thought that if the party travels across the sea it will be only level 1 challenge (4 vs 3) but harder DCs to reflect the quicker travel time, but harder to hide; but if they travel overland it will be a level 2 challenge (6 vs. 3) because it will take longer, but easier to remain hidden.
But I am not sure how it should play out. How should I structure it? Should I use group checks (per the DMG 2)? How do I reflect failure of the entire challenge? Should I penalize the individual failures?
So I again turn to your the collected wisdom. Please, ENWorld, you are my only hope!
