Imagine 13ft worth of RPGs!! :D

I have at least that much. Seriously. Maybe as much as 20 feet, and that's just counting books, and not Master Maze, miniatures, and so on. My friends call my collection the "Wilder Library."

There is actually a number of 'under the bed' storage units available. They usually have small wheels on them so that that the storage unit can easily be moved in and out from under the bed. They come in a variety of sizes. My friend uses several of them to store his gaming stuff in. They work great and they are out of sight (under the bed) if you don't like the 'milk crate' stackable storage units that others have suggested.

I've actually used some old-fashioned suitcases from my grandma to store games (mostly boxed games like Top Secret and 1st Edition Gamma World) and also some of my card games.

You can usually get them pretty cheap from a thrift store. Buy a few different sizes and then stack them with the largest on the bottom to the smallest on the top. When stacked, in addition to being good storage, they also make a unique-looking end table. You can get a piece of glass cut to the size of the smallest case on the top to make a little table out of it, and if you want, you can put little travel stickers on your cases to make it look like you've traveled places.

I think the guy above who mentioned acrewing shleves to your celing was joking, but that's almost exactly what we did.

The top foot of each wall is now "shelf space", we bough a lot of premade shlving from home depot and just screwed it up there. It was going unused before.

We did the same thing for our home office (formerly "the junk room") when I got laid-off from work. We got the shelves reasonably cheap at IKEA. The ones we have are on a kind of track (I don't know what else to call it) that goes from floor to ceiling and is bolted into the wall. Then you can adjust the shelves to whatever height you want.

We put our desk underneath with the laptop and all of our files in the desk, and then put all the shelves up near the ceiling - a total of three across and three down. I use them to basically store my advertising related research papers and notes (stuff I used to keep in my work office) and also office supplies.

That actually freed up regular book-shelf space which is now used for RPGs, comics, knick-knacs, and of course, books.

We're in an apartment, too, so there should be no problem with hanging the shelves. We just didn't ask for permission - we just went ahead and did it.

I've gotta go with the stackable plastic crates as well. They stack. They store your books well. You can organize your books however best fits your needs. You can pick up a crate and take it with you if you game somewhere else without having to repack or redistribute all your books. What's not to love?

If you work in an office, you might also consider the sturdy cardboard boxes that your bulk copier paper most likely comes in. The boxes are the perfect size for gaming books -- they hold about two dozen books with spines facing out. You can even stack them.

My office goes through several of these boxes a week. Whenever I see an empty sitting by the recycling bin, I just pick it up and take it home with me.

Well, except for one shelf of recent purchases and "to-reads", mine are sadly all stored away in preparation for a hoped-for move. But even before several months back, the really old stuff has in large plastic tubs out in the storage area.

But now I'm dreaming... can you imaging something like one of those motorized multi-shelf units what see sometimes, especially at a multi-practitioner Doctor's office? Where your shelves go up (or down) and then to the back with the easy touch of a button.

Or better yet, go for the really big office, where the large shelves are on tracks and roll right next to each other. You pull apart the shelves (I'd say motorized there too, but maybe this way you can get your workout at the same time you are pursuing your "fun" focus) until you get to the one you want and have walking space in between them to actually access the book you want/need.

Shoot, just buy an old dry-cleaners warehouse. Now you can put a small box/semi-enclosed shelf on each hanger and push the button to speed around to the collection you want.

Ok ok, not really practical, but fun to imagine!

I see a lot of good suggestions here, but many of them won't work depending on why this statement is true. Gorilla, why specifically do you not have room for a bookcase?

That sounds really weird, and I can't think of many storage options (apart from the suggested shelves by the ceiling, or in boxes/piles) that fit the bill as you've described it.

Details, man, details! ;)
