Cooperative Spell [Metamagic]
REQ: Any other metamagic feat
You and another spell caster with this feat can simultaneously cast the same spell (at the same time in the round). You must be adjacent to one another when casting. Add +2 to the save DC and +1 to caster level checks to beat the target’s spell resistance (if any). Use the base DC and level check of the better caster. No spell level adjustment. Tome and Blood, pg 39.

Good for NPCs.

Maybe good for Followers, if you use the ELH rules to allow people to have adepts.

Stupid idea for PCs.

The problem here is somewhat the reverse of rapid shot's (excessive?) power.

The -2 penalty from rapid shot is offset by the fact that you get to make two attack rolls. This leads to an exceedingly narrow window in which you are actually less likely to hit (and do damage) with two rolls rather than one slightly better one. So, in effect you should 'always' use rapid shot.

The advantages offered by cooperative spell are so small that they are more than offset by the lose of an attack and the subsequent chance of the target's failure. In virtually all cases both spell casters would have been better off spending the feat to enhance the DC of thier own spell. So, basically, you should 'never' take/use cooperative spell.

What would you rather face, two spell casters with cooperative spell or two spell casters with spell focus? What would you rather face, one spell with a 17 DC save or the same spell twice with a 15 DC save?

Its a prereq for MotAO, other than that, it Aint worth the paper its printed on.

Essentially it lets two spellcasters who each spent a feat use the Aid Another action in spellcasting. At the cost of a spell from both casters and tactical disadvantages of having to stand adjacent and then having to have one of them Delay to the others init and......

Costs wayyyy too much, gains way too little.

Hmmm. You can apply metamagic feats multiple times, and the effects stack. I think I need a 20x Cooperative finger of death. That'll show 'em!

I'd say if only one spellcaster had to have it, it might be worth it. Then you could have a weak spellcaster (like an apprentice) help his master out with spells and such. Otherwise, pathetically weak.

A good point, the only thing I can think of to counter your argument is that this feat does apply to all spells, not just one school.
So if two spell-casters have this feat they can pick the 'will' save spells for the Rogue and 'reflex' saves for the cleric with a bit more flexibility as opposed to having spell focus in a single school.

Just playing devil's advocate...

Ysgarran.

One fireball at dc19 or 2 at 17? Even if they make both 17 saves and don't make the 19 save they take the same damage. worthless feat.

The feat is actually not that bad for PCs who want to take Mage of the Arcane Order or for NPCs who are members of large schools specializing in summoning magic.

A very large group of moderately powered wizards with this feat could actually gate in Grazz't or another Demon Lord, Dimensional Anchor, and Bind him in a Magic Circle. Or just disintegrate him.

But that's about all it's good for. The number of times that's going to come up for PCs or NPCs is minimal. All told, I think it rates a 2. And only because characters probably want to become Mages of the Arcane Order.

Because a feat is a prereq for a prestige class doesn't make it a good feat. The prereq could be any useless feat because the class is balanced by penatly feats like some classes are balanced by bonus feats.
