Uh... I thought I was supposed to give it rating in regards to design, game balance, all that. To rate it as a DM, you know?

Oh, you're thinking of smetzger's polls. He's looking for a comprehensive view. But apparently, the originator of this thread wants to know if his PC sorcerer should take levels of Archmage.

I think we can both say that (from a player's perspective) the answer is a resounding yes!!

Everyone had a tough time, except the wiz13/archmage5. When his initiative came up, practically everything they were fighting took 48d6 of acid damage (2xMet Swarm - I don't allow sonic, and they were fighting fiends). None of the party did, of course, despite the fact that the fight was raging around them (mastery of shaping).

Well, with 3.5E's new Haste, they won't be able to do that anymore...

What was really obnoxious, though, was when the archmage started using mastery of shaping with Mord's Disjunction.

*POOF* All the enemies lose their buffs. Party's still fine.

Actualy I just wanted opnions on the class....I know my sorcerer is taking it although not because it is powerful but because again what mage doesnt want to be an arch mage?
It would be "broken" if it was a 10 lvl class and/or if it wasnt for the fact that you cant take it till 14th CL anyway(or 15th for a sorcerer).

Actualy I did see that in an early version of some of the FR stuff that got realeased online before the FR stuff actualy came out.
I agree with the changes to make Archmage and Hierophant a little more distinct.

Personally, I prefer the original version. You still get the cool High Arcanas but each one costs you a level of spellcasting ability, which in my mind is a balanced tradeoff.

It is. but I cant really see the other version as over powered, and seperating the master priest and the master mage class from each other a bit is nice. You already have to wait so long to even take either one...which of course makes sense but still in some campaigns it can be a long wait.
And whatever anyone might say, I cant help but see sacrificing spell slots permanently...especialy 8th and 9th level ones..as a pretty decent cost for a wizard especialy.

Is losing a spell slot a big deal? As a Sorc you have plenty. And who in their right mind wouldn't cast a 9th level undispellable spell that gave you +3 to spell DCs, spell penetration & dispel checks? For thats what losing a 9th level spell for spell power +3 really is. It doesn't hurt sorcerer one bit.

OUCH! Never thought of that. Good thing my player didn't too. Sounds like you had a really fun game ;)
