One thing that Mearls just said that just jazzed me is, "We spent days arguing over a mechanic that added nothing to the actual fun gameplay. It's just bookkeeping. 'When do I get my powers back?' Who cares; just rest five minutes and get'm back. No card drawing or anything."

They specifically say In the Podcast, "Yes, Gauntlets of Ogre power will be there, thematically. But they don't add a number to your Strength score."

Huh? What does that mean, exactly? Are we talking "you can use these three times a day to set your strength to 24 for a round" or something?

They don't mention exactly what they mean. One of the issues they mentioned with items that raise your ability scores is that they want to avoid having players rejigger their entire character sheets as a result of play.
