They 'don't want to have ability score changes halting game play'. Have we heard anything about ability score damage? I seem to recall something, but if so I forget what. In any case it may be safe to assume that ability drain/damage is gone too.

I too seem to recall them saying that ability damage/drain was out, and that would match with what they said in the podcast. And I have to say, I'm not sorry to see it go. In a PbP game I'm in right now, everyone in the party has been hit for some degree of Con damage after a couple encounters with Rylkars. We're going to have to retreat and stop for a solid day or two until we can pass around enough Lesser Restorations.

Gauntlets of Henchman Power? ;)
Bah! :p
I would love to have a character that could lift the gates of the city if he was denied entry. Try to get your henchman to do that! But really, without an actually +str boost, it allows the items to give you truly interesting abilities without unbalancing your character for combat.

Wild speculation on the gauntlets of ogre power:
Perhaps they now confer bonuses similar to the 'powerful build' ability in 3.5.
Now that sounds awesome.

The reason I say this is because I think a little guy being able to Grapple, and Push people, and THROW them with the strength of an Ogre is attractive.

Oh, I agree.

Also would be great to have a Bridle or Saddle of that sort.

Would be great having a mule that could carry an elephant, but less great if said donkey could kick your head across a continent when it got mad.

I really hope this edition is more animal companion friendly in general.

Heck, LotR was full of the bloody things.

dude... if they don't do that, they may in my campaign. That sounds really cool.

Amulets of Health could give an additonal second wind per day.

But really I would hope it would do something more interesting than just give a statistacal/combat-related bonus. I would rather magic items like this make your character stop aging, or perhaps it could heal scars, and even regenerate limbs over an extended period of time. Say, 3 months to grow back a limb.

Magic items should do things to make the character more interesting as opposed to necessarily more powerful.

I will admit, the "nerfing" of Gauntlets of Ogre Power and Belts of Giant Strength was an annoyance to me for 3E. however, I never really knew how to fix it to the kind of prestige it once had, so I left them that way when I DMed it.
