{Point buy equiv. & modified paladin} ???

Um, I want to do some weird things with my character:

1. Replace rolling with a point buy equivalent.

4d6 is equivalent to basic 4d6dl (drop lowest) because although the 4d6dl averages 30pts, 3 of those points are wasted due to odd stat suboptimization, & 3 points for minimal stability. Yes I know that doesn't add up to to 30 but the 30 is debatable (29-32) & the law of diminishing returns should incrementally reduce the penalty or bonus beyond the first step.

I propose the following 30 point but as an equivalent to the 3 sets of 4d6dl because of the following. First I start at 25 pt buy as my baseline. The 3 sets give effective minimal stability to the rollers, so I increase it by 3. Out of the 3 rolls I would expect 1 to be lower & 1 to be higher than average, & the higher will obviously be taken, so I increase it by 3. Diminshing returns reduces this by 1.

2. Customize my class a bit.

As per usual I am drawing towards choosing another Paladin (or a Necromanctic ray & touch spell specialist) but I am in a variant mood.

I propose the following for the Paladin:
A) Spell-less as per the Complete Warrior (CW), giving up spells for powers at 6th, 11th & 16th level.
B) No mount, & instead receiving bonus divine feats from the CW at levels 5, 10, 15, 20.

Just like CR, Magic spells, & heaps of others stuff, we need to look at it rather than just rely on some formulae. Unless you definitely disagree, I'll post this on ENworld for some intelligent feedback & then I'll get back to you.

As you can see I'm looking at getting an equivalent point buy value, would you play 30pts if the others were rolling three sets of 4d6dl? Also, really with the paladin all I want to check are my proposals. Does this look reasonable if you were to be a player or the dm?

The dm is a newbie & I'm trying to counter my natural urge to power-game with reasoned opinion.
