I run a Greyhawk campaign and the characters are all 40 to 50+ point buy equivalent in ability scores. This causes all kinds of problems in 3rd edition. I have to increase the strength of the bad guys in order to challenge the characters, and this usually means the lethality rate for them goes way up.
One of the players is going to DM for awhile so I can finally play 3rd edition D&D. When I start a new campaign, I have decided to use the point buy method from the DMG. I think I will use 25 point buy. At the most, 28. This will keep the ability scores in the range that the game was designed for.
Crothian: I think 2 or 3 from my group, including myself, will be coming out for Origins, at least for a day. I will look for the "get together" thread when it gets closer to July. Perhaps we can all have a beer together.
