Unless you happen to run into odd numbered ability draining monsters all the time, it's most assuredly not worth it.
Why lower your total modifiers by one 99% of the time, just to not lose one point 1% of the time via ability drain?
That one point lost just puts you down to the same level you otherwise run around with all the time.
