Pointers To Polymorph

har har, Nifft

I thought that only the abilities that pointed to polymorph were changed to point to alternate form instead. But polymorph still stands on its own. That's how I play it, and it has never gotten too crazy. Just remember that Outsider is not on the list of acceptable types (which I forget again and again, to my players' delight).

And wrt the size question (that is: alter self allows one size category different, but what about polymorph?), I allow polymorph to alter your size by two categories. This keeps that gnome from turning into a hydra. I also allow forms from only the Monster Manual -- no other sources.

OK. So for the first time since 1e, I'm running a pure caster who's actually semi-decent level (9th). Because he's a replacement for my poor, dead, half-ogre paladin (snurfle), I am jumping in to him at a fairly advanced level. (Wizard 5/Blood Magus 4) Most spells are pretty basic, but he has Polymorph, and I'm led to believe the version in the PHB (3.5) has been erratad and changed to hell and gone.

Can someone point me to the latest, final, OFFICIAL, ruling on what Polymorph, the 4th level spell, can/cannot do? (The fact I can share it with my rat familiar offers so many tactical possibilities it's not funny...)
Polymorph was never errated nor changed. The designers did suggest no longer using it.

They want you to instead use Polymorph subschool spells (the Polymorph subschool do not affecrt PHB spells, Polymorph is not changed). This is because Polymorph allows so much.

And Con still applies to Polymorph: Only Wild Shape ewas errated doesn't changed hps from Con.
