Polearms!

- Team up with an ally using a tower shield or immaterial wall spell to block enemy advance. Attack with polearm from behind.

- Enlarge person spells/potions and cleave or whirlwind to give really wide sweeps.

Actually, when you compare net damage from polearms as opposed to greatswords, it really doesn't differ by much. Mostly a matter of tactical considerations.

Improved Unarmed Attack or one level of Monk is also good. This lets you shift the polearm to one hand (free action) and then hit with your free hand.
Somewhere (OA I think), it stats that monks don't exclusively use their hands... it was mentioned that a monk can hold a two-handed weapon, and still do a 'flurry of blows' as they'd use legs, elbows, and his head.

The monk would not need to shift grip to perform an unarmed strike. However, the monk could not flurry of blows if he made any attacks with the non-monk weapon (guisarme).
