I used to only game with my friends, and they came over mostly to play D&D and videogames. For the last couple months, I have been going to a FLGS and DMing for a bunch of 12-13 year olds and that has been fun too.

Of course I game with friends. I game with friends that I've known for over a decade. I game with friends that I trust that I set one up and is now engaged to my best friend. I game with friends that I see once or twice a year at conventions. I game with friends that IO've known a bit over a year.

Gaming is a fun and rewarding activity. And I find that sharing the experience with friends makers the whole thing that much better.

Back when I was just a lad...: I tagged along when my brothers and thier friends to game when I could.

Fresno/Reedley: Ahh, the old days! I had several groups in this area... and except for a few individuals, I'd name them all friends.

Spokane: Roughly half were friends, others were just a-holes I gamed with.

San Diego: Met some folks over ENworld, gamed with them several months... there are 2 or 3 that I'd consider friends.

Vancouver/Portand: New group, met via ENworld. Nobody I'd name a friend yet. Good folks though.

Eventually I'll get around to moving back down to Fresno. Nothing like gaming with "family".

I game with friends. Even if they start out as strangers at the table, I like the think of them as friends afterwards.

I am usually in the first group, and so voted, but am currently in the third. The assimilation process has begun.

Those whom are unsuitable for friendship... well, they are introduced to the guppy...

Combination. I've gamed with friends, family, casual aquaintances, people I'd actively cross the street to avoid (though not long with that last bunch).

Overall, it's not hugely important to me, but I'm not plugged into the "friendship/peer group" culture of the latter 20th century; just not my bag.

About half of my current gaming group I would call friends - I'd be happy just to hang out and chat with them, for instance - but I don't have much of a chance to and it doesn't bother me. As for the other half, I don't have anything against, but wouldn't seek out their company.

Currently, I would say option 3. It used to be just option 1, but people change, move, etc. And not all new players become friends, although most do. Still, I have met several good friends through gaming, and brought a few non-gamers over to the dark side. Ah, good times, good times.
