Friends since highschool, my wife, and one frienemy. Ah well, heh, not every apple's gonna be a good one I suppose. :p

I went with option 4, which I took (perhaps wrongly) to mean that I don't socialize with my RPG group members but that I would if the situation arose.

I've nothing against anyone in my group, and I've occasionally pitched in to help out with their stuff (e.g., I, along with quite a few others, some in and others out of the group, helped one of the guys move across town), but I've actually never been invited to do anything with any of them outside the once-a-week session, and the one time I suggested something as a supplement to the game, no one bothered even to reply to my email. Now it may be that my idea (an RPG-themed board game) didn't appeal, or it could just be that my armpits smell, but I was honestly a little hurt that it didn't even get acknowledged. So I'll downgrade our relationship to "acquaintances who don't socialize."

Almost all of the friends I have I have gained through gaming. But when it comes down to it, I game with gamers, then make friends with the gamers I like.

I'm sorry, I couldn't imagine gaming with people that I wouldn't be seen with outside of the game.

Gaming is a good pasttime, a time for me and my friends to get togather and have a good time now that we're grown up and don't have much other time for this.

Option 1, not only friends but the best of friends.
The kind who'll help dispose of a body when called up out of the blue in the middle of the night to help dispose of a body  (if ever such was necessary).

I voted #1, because it's currently true.

I've gamed with acquaintences, but it never lasted -- either they became friends, or they became people I didn't game with.

Like some other posters here, I don't have tons of free time, and I hate feeling like i've wasted it.

The people I game with now all have lives and we are lucky if between work, kids (for those who have them), and relationships we get to have the full group together two times a month. Since our gaming time generally constitutes most our free time we nearly always game when we get chance to hang-out. Sometimes we do watch a movie or have dinner together but since we are all gamers to the core we generally enjoy gaming to most other activities.

I am usually in the first group, and so voted, but am currently in the third. The assimilation process has begun.

one is also my girlfriend.
The new guy is twice (!) my age (at 36) and has played D&D longer than I've lived (20 to my 18 years) and is an interesting, nice fellow. He's mostly used to Darksun, whereas I'm DMing a FR game (my specialty, other than my homebrew) for 1st level characters right now, him included. It's fun, lemme tell you :D

He's not a friend.. yet; but he very well could be.

As for the gf, we've been going out for a week and a few days, and I already got her into a D&D game. She's a friend from years ago who is well aware of my nerdy-ness, which is sweet :D
