Heh. Erol Otis *shakes head*

I voted for Elmore. i know he's not the most liked guy around but his early works had such a crisp clean look that I will always identify early to mid-80's AD&D with Elmore.

Larry Elmore is and always will be my most respected reference. Not to diminish anyone else but Larry is the bomb!

If I had to mention a third edition fave, it would be Todd Lockwood. Not only is he a great artist, but a great and nice person too. I sent me an e-mail and he passed me all these tips and advices...

"I looked at your web page, and saw some very nice work. Your characters have a lot of personality. I would encourage you to attend some life-drawing classes, and/or draw your friends or family live at every opportunity (while they are watching TV, sleeping, whenever). it will hone your knowledge of the anatomy you are drawing, and give ammo to your sense of light and shadow. You have a strong base on which to build! Exercise those muscles!

He is the best!

No intention to ruin the thread! Back to 1st. Edition, will we?

Elmore. Met him once. He was quite nice, as was his family. Great T&A too. Also just loved the style.

I have Parkinson in a print framed on my wall from Gen Con. Liked that too. Gotta get more art like that sometime.

I really liked the style of the old PHB and DMG and MM - just was something about it that seems almost mystical now, though I don't know the artists. I think it left a lot to the imagination. 3E art is nice, but it seems so so so... I don't know. Maybe it is like Star Trek TNG, Voyager, etc - space travel is just so... ordinary. Not like the frontier days. Not like they are now showing it in Enterprise. Wilder, scarier - you get the sense you don't know what is out there, and you can feel close to that because it is so contemporary. With TNG, it just felt so far removed from our real society, almost routine, that it was hard to get too worried about the 'great unknown'.

Erol Otus

Vote for Erol Otus

although i like many of the others Erol's work
every time i saw it just oozed D&D :)

Anyone know if he has a website with his art?

I also voted for Elmore. His illustrations for the old D&D 80s boxed sets really define the way I visualize D&D. I like the rules of 3e, but I really dislike the new dungeonpunk art style.

huh? T&A? I hope you're not saying what it sounds like you're saying.
