You really need a "Other" Choice. I don't mind or perfer either. I just want seemless rules that are flexible be there a lot or little of them. It's the quality of the rules more then the amount that matter to me.

oh and post your reason why as well, please.

(If your wondering, I was just seeing how many prefered which becuase my friend and I were discussing which was used more)

To me, that sounds like "rules light". But my interpretation of that style is a basic mechanic that can be applied to any circumstance (I don't know... like a die roll + modifiers versus a difficulty class?).

I like Rules Light, but I consider D&D to be pretty 'rules light'; I know some disagree.

*waves* That'll be me!

I personally think that the belief that DnD is "rules light" is the thing that causes so many arguments among players new to the system.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's beautiful. There are rules in 3E that cover many circumstances, and resolve themselves right if you follow them correctly.

Sorry if that sounds ornery, but I've played 3E since it was released, and I've played with many groups that go through the "this sucks, needs to be fixed" stage, just because they don't understand how the rules work.

Oh, yeah, I've seen that happen. And then you try and convince them that you shouldn't be able to get rid of that last -2/-2 on two weapon fighting, with full strength modifier in the off hand... <sigh>

 Or the AoO thing. "That seems logically flawed, you should be able to move away from someone and do something without them attacking."

"Really? Holdon, I'm going to scrap this character and make up a mage......"

or on the subject of Mages:

DM: "Ok, so you guys got a grand total of..........300 gold from that adventure."

Happy Clueless Participants: "Wohoo! This is great! Don't you think that's a bit much?"

Me (Mage): "But.........but........we're 8th level!! The system....it's designed.......I have to scribe spells into..........." *dies*

HCP: "What's HIS problem?"

DM: "Twink."

It really depends. Some things are better done rules light, some things are better done rules heavy. No one tool is ever going to work right for all jobs. You use the tool that the job requires.
