I must say I love spending an evening siting round a table waiting for my DM find what he is looking for in a mound of books, its so much more fun than actually playing the game.

Well, I realize that was an insult so I shouldn't bother to respond but....

I have a lot memorized, and monster stats are already written out in the books. My players don't seem to mine my style as they continually demand that I dm.

I was skeptical about Poly at first. Afterall, it had been that RPGA thing. I didn't want any RPGA stuff in my mailbox. But it turned out all the RPGA junk got dumped into Dragon, and Poly became this nice little bonus in the back of Dungeon.

Then Poly kind of started getting cool. There was the 3E Spelljammer rendering. Then some sneak peaks at d20 Modern. Then that 70's Super-race mini-game which had me laughing my head off. Then an add on for the 70's race game that let you play chimp PCs, which made me laugh even more.

My reason for subscribing is still the Dungeon side of the magazine, but if Poly went away I'd miss it.

Okay, I just saw somebody being called childish
for wondering why they don't take Polyhedral
out of Dungeon magazine. Personally, I find
Polyhedral so useless that I wish it would go away
if only to give me lighter magazines. (Apologies to
those who work on the mag. I'm just not a fan.)
It's ... POLYHEDRON

And FYI, it is because of that magazine in a new format (a "definitive d20" magazine) is the very reason why I tolerate the presence of Dung on the other side of the issue. After all, while I like Dungeons & Dragons, I'm not a fangeek, I'm a hobbyist. I like to play other games of a different genre that uses the same core rules system as D&D, Star Wars, Call of Cthulhu, etc.

I like to expand my horizon (even beyond d20), not conform to one. Sorry if that sounds elitist, as I hate elitist gamers myself (the very reason why I get into RPG, to get away from the elitists and the popular opportunists in high school). I prefer to think of myself as a common, diversified gamer.

But if Poly is suddenly no longer with Dung, I'll just cut my loss. After all, I tend to make my own adventures, and I make the time to prep it. That's why I believe there is no such thing as a lazy GM (despite my observance of the gaming community that continues to disprove my belief).

It seems Polyhedron has turned into a novelty magazine. Each issue is a new d20 game that does not seem to be designed for consistent play. How many sessions can you play of the 70's race game?

Besides that one (which I think can be used for long-term play), which ones are not intended for long-term play? All of them seem pretty viable for campaign play.

Omega World, for starters. I think Jonathan Tweet comes right out and says that it's a great game for one-shots (unbalanced characters, high mortality rate, etc), but doesn't really work for an extended campaign.

Says him. It's just Gamma World d20, which a lot of us played almost as much as D&D back in the late 70s/early 80s. Nothing about it that I've read suggests it's so different from the original GW that it can't be used for campaign play.
