Uh, for what purposes?

VP&WP correct four major conceptual incogruities of the HP system.

But I still wouldn't use it for fantasy. But then, I don't use HP for fantasy as written either, so take that for what it's worth.

At any rate, for the purposes of a modern action game, I find VP/WP superior to HP/MDT.

Definitely WP/VP for any genre. I have been using a WP/VP system for almost two years in my game, and it works wonderfully. I have cure spells heal one WP worth of damage per spell level, and the dice heal VP. I like giving low-level characters a little boost in survival, but keeping high-level characters from getting too full of themselves.
 




It is a shame that the poll doesn't include some of the other interesting options there are now...

e.g. Hit Points with a low damage threshold (a la d20Modern)

e.g. Static Hit Points
 

Eh, HP are fine. Especially if you replace the text from the Heal skill with what the Treat Injury skill says in the Modern SRD, and make available feats like Surgery. Then you still don't need a cleric -- although technically you still need a medic. But it's not that big a deal to get one. Add that to the lowered MDT, and I'm good to go.

Not that I don't like options, it's just that the VP/WP isn't one I find particularly compelling.

I used to do it that way, but it turned out to have... problems... in practice, not the least of which was a huge bog-down in play time and too much descision-making over when to drink a cure potion.

You can fix that by having crits do multiplied damage to VP, as opposed to going direct to wounds. Although once you do that, it isn't that different to hit points....
