Well, I mean, if there are people who claim they can't imagine how to do combat without minis, that they can't do it as well... But there are people who not only do play combat without miniatures, but do it well, and in fact prefer it... One has to think there is a difference somewhere...
apocalypstick said:Finally, minis aren't horribly expensive; in fact, painting and collecting them is much cheaper than buying PS2 games or going to a baseball game or what have you. after an initial outlaying of cash for some paint pots and brushes, a good miniature that'll give you hours of painting fun costs between 2-3 dollars.
It's a bit more costly than that. Paint, brushes, etc cost money, and minis can cost more than 2-3 dollars if you have to order them to get them (Which a lot of people do), or if you want to get ones that match your characters (Which could take buying some of the more expensive brands).

And because it could be wrong, of course. I've won the FLGS mini-painting contest before. I still don't actualy like doing it. It's boring, and time consuming, and tedious. I'll paint my own characters mini, for games that require minis, but I couldn't envision doing it over and over for orks and skeletons and NPCs and stuff.
