Dude! This line of argument has been rehashed many times before in previous BoEF threads - are you willfully ignoring the responses?

Let's try it again, then!

*ahem*

Some activities are considered "social" activities - these are seen as more acceptable within a tabletop gaming environment (a rather social environment). Sadly, violence is seen as one of them. Other activities (and this is where "erotic" comes in) are usually *not* considered to be appropriate for social situations.

Now, some people are fine with erotic themes in a social context - and obviously they will probably be interested in the contents of the BoEF. But others do not follow that line of thought, and think that the idea of sex and eroticism within a tabletop roleplaying game is silly. So that is why some people will consider that "a book of pretend sex involving pretend fantasy races" is different.

Got it?

That's why I said

Just because it's sex, of course...

What you don't get is that for the most part the whole idea of roleplaying of any kind is silly. Period. It's a question of content, just as with the contents of said book itself. The idea that adults (and I use adults because I am and I game only with adults) are sitting around a table playing pretend anything is just freakin' silly to a whole lot of people, whether they are hacking up orcs or having relations with barmaids. It doesn't matter what the content of the RP is, the intent is still the same thing.

And as others have said to other people...don't lecture me.

Got it?

Though hardly an ephifany, I think the graphics/photos are what is objectionable, much moreso then the mechanics related material. I would imagine that if AV removed the photos, no matter how tame some may think them, most of the hullabaloo would die down.

In other words, describe it in writing, but don't show us what you mean?

Oh, I get that alright.. and I totally agree with you. Clearly, every gamer has their own level of how much "silliness" to accept...

And this is where people seem to differ. It certainly *does* matter what the content of the RP is, as is clearly shown by both the polls and comments in the related threads. I'm surprised anyone would suggest otherwise.
And as others have said to other people...don't lecture me.
I apologize for that - didn't mean to. Just trying to explain why some people accept certain levels of "silliness", and not others.

sure.

We're fine with talking about lots of things of a sexual nature that would bring a blush to Eric's grandma. Now imagine what would happen if you showed her a photo.

The lady that hosts the Sunday Night Sex Show discusses some pretty progressive stuff regarding sex. Alot of that stuff, if illustrated in a magazine would be illegal in some communities.

We live in a society where Wal-Mart won't sell certain men's magazines whose pictures are mearly suggestive and hides the covers of certain womens fashion magazines.

I know it sounds like a double standard, or an arbitrary point, but that is the way things are.

Look at the other poll, the material contained in the other suppliments would appear to be of a similar nature, but they apparently use pencil drawings and more tradional artwork. The thing that got AV's book attention in the first place was the use of photos.

hope that makes sense.

I would suggest it (and did) simply because I don't see a difference. But that's just me. All of this said though, my primary campaign includes not even a tiny bit of description concerning anything of the nature. Sex happens in the game, but off-camera and in everyone's own imagination (I suppose). It isn't talked about at the gaming table, and won't be just because of the folks I game with in that one.

The solo game for my wife is a completely different story, though, as it is just she and I.

I apologize for that - didn't mean to. Just trying to explain why some people accept certain levels of "silliness", and not others.

No problem, just got a bit touchy. I apologize as well.

I'll quote a friend of mine...

"If someone leaves my Sunday night game and goes home to pleasure themselves while thiniking about it, then something has gone very, very wrong with my plan"
