If I guess right will you tell me? I'm going to say you chose Guccione as the artist (and If I had to pick one I'd agree)

I think they are both pornographers, but I don't necessarily mean anything bad by that.

You get a cookie!

And I do agree both are pornographers, and I don't mean anything by it either.

The problem that I'm seeing is that mixed in with some possibly useful material is a bunch of puerile nonsense.

I have the same reaction from almost every 3rd party produced product of any subject I look at. I own very few because of that. Actually, the BoEF was the first 3rd party product I ever put money down on (when I preordered it) because of that.

The argument is simple enough for me. I can have sexin real life. I play fantasy roleplaying games because I cannot get that in my real life. In real life, I am not a hero slaying goblins to protect my village, I cannot cast spells, nor can I track deer through a forest.

It's not that violence is more acceptable. It's just that I want to play a game to act out things that I cannot do in my daily life.

Now, maybe I would have been more open to the BoEF when I was a virgin. Certainly, I was not having sex in real life then, so maybe I would have wanted to act out silly fantasies in game. (And that is the rub, that statement would sound bad to anyone when sex is involved!)

Friends, especially male friends, do not want to act out sex fantasies together!

Even virgins will eventually have sex in real life, but you will never pick up your father's blade and defend the village from attack. Or hack apart your enemies... at least, I hope none of us will do that in real life.

It'd give gamers a bad name dontcha know. ;)

I think you're safe on this aspect.

The countries where such events are likely don't have common Internet access, nor the money to pay for entertainments like RPGs.

What exactly constitutes a mature gamer? Is it the way he/she conducts himself in a game?

Yes.

The type of products he/she likes?

Yes.

The way he/she acts at any given time whether roleplaying or not?

Yes.

The way the person acts on a messageboard?

Yes.

Just curious as to what you used to determine the maturity of certain gamers.

Sounds like you got it all figured out.

Wow! This is great. In the three pages of posts since I last read the thread, I've been anonymously quoted and virtually all of my usual arguments have been articulated by others with considerable eloquence. Thanks especially to arnwyn and Teflon Billy.

I can't really think of any major points that need to be made in the BOEF debate that have not already been made. Generally, from what I've read, the debate has actually made me feel better about the gaming world as a whole and EN World in particular. I'm fairly proud of the positions most posters and WOTC have taken on the general subject of sexually-themed RPGs.

On the subject of these two other supplements I keep forgetting the name of, the reason BOEF is getting the lion's share of the attention is that it is being promoted more successfully. If I had been aware of those other supplements, no doubt I would have been vociferous in my criticism of them too.

One thing I would like to get a sense of, though, is what the ages are of the people taking various positions in the debate. I've been fighting the temptation to generalize that those most clearly opposed to "mature gaming" are those like me who have completed 30+ laps around the sun.

I'm not *opposed* to "mature gaming." It's just not for me. (Then again, I run Delta Green. Not the best environment for erotic fantasy.)

I'm 34 and my position on the subject is pretty well known, since I'm a proponent of the BoEF.

Maybe I should create a poll to find out the ages of those that voted no or yes...[joke] :)
