Now, it's not just goblins and vampires existing on the fringes of our world - it's giants and dragons wreaking havoc on downtown. The only hope for the good guys? High-tech mecha, of course!

Some of these actually sound pretty cool, dontcha think? I'd play that NASBOT Racers...

I haven't actually seen a copy, but Dream Pod 9 apparently has something similar called Gear Kreig. Originally a miniature game, then they made an RPG for the setting.

It might be cool to have each group of PCs pilot a single mech. Like a cross between a bomber crew and a tank crew [with the usual WWII movie ethnic diversity rules in effect]

I'm not sure if you ever saw my post on the Japanese RPG/Manga Mobile Racer Championship. Essentially NASCAR painted mecha racing around while fighting CARS WARS style. I'm working on a D20 conversion...
