Polymorph and the Vampire

I know this has been covered before but it just confused the crap out of us tonight. With the new polymorph rules, I could find no indicator that type stays the same. So, is a Vampire that changes to wolf form an animal or an undead? And based on how that goes I may have follow up questions.

Under Alternate Form, his Type stays the same - it's not listed as something that changes. (This is why Wildshaping druids can't cast Animal Growth or Awaken on themselves any more...)

I asked CustServ whether "takes the Constitution of the new form" or "has no Constitution score" (from Alternate Form and Undead Type, respectively) takes precedence, and they said that the vampire in wolf form still has no Con score. But there's not really any indication in the rules which should take precedence.
