Polymorph Other & Magic Jar

Broken Fang

First Post
Say a high level wizard wants to go fishing...for whales. He is looking for some massive creature that can withstand huge amounts of punishment. He pays for passage for the local sailors to find him some whales. Once found said Wizard attempts to Polymorph Other on the whale in attempts to turn 100+ HP's into a Pixie (why a Pixie you ask...because said Wizard knows they can fly). After x number of attempts to get the whale to fail its save the sailors rescue the 100+ HP Pixie from the water or the Wizard does. Then said Wizard Magic Jars (or even better Extended Magic Jars) himself into the 100+ HP Pixie that flys. The Wizard, who always plans ahead, hides his body safely in his tower/keep/whatever and prepares his Contingency so that if his life force returns to the jar it will be teleported back to his body.

Now would you allow all of this?

NO ! Has whale is Huge ? Gargantuan ? and Pixies is Small or Tiny and u can only change size class by one step using polymorph spells (IMO)

better try with a Fire Giant (Large) turn into a Med size creature !

The whole contingency thing smells a bit fishy to me. First, the contingent spell has to affect your person (not a magic gem). Second, the triggering circumstances must be clear. Based on the examples in the spell description, I don't think the location of your soul is clear or obvious.

Your DM may pick up on an inconsistency in the rules about where a being's hit points are located; Polymorph Other assumes it is with the mind, while Magic Jar assumes it is with the body. While your scenario cleverly exploits this inconsistency, I think it would be reasonable for a DM to close the loophole.

Be careful about letting your body be so far away from your gem. A beholder's anti-magic ray is certain death for you!

P.S. The Tome & Blood version of Polymorph Other allows sizes from Diminutive to one size larger than the subject. So no worries there.

The contengency idea won't work. If the host dies while you are out f range...your gone. If you are looking for necromantic immortality, check out clone or hide life.
