Polymorph other on your familiar?

IMHO, Keeping extraordinary and losing supernatural doesn't make any sense at all:

A viper changed into a tiger is still poisonous!
A cheetah changed into a gelatinous cube can still sprint!
A gargoyle changed into a human still appear to be a statue!
A tyrannosaurus changed into a housecat can still SWALLOW WHOLE a medium sized opponent!?

but monsters with telepathy can no longer use it?!
I hope this has been errata'd

Not to doubt the wonderful wisdom of the SRD but what does it say in the PH, or Tome and Blood where it was errataed. Sometimes the SRD and the PH don't match.

The original PHB version and the errataed T&B version says the same thing - you retain Extraordinary and Spell-like abilities, but not Supernatural ones.

What if you use Polymorph Self, can you still cast spells if you take the form of, say, a Harpy?

Yes as long as the caster can still speak and has hands to cast the spells with. I can't recall off the top of my head if there are any feats that allow a wizard to cast in an anmial form but I know that there are some for Wildshaping charcters.
