Polymorph question...

A friend of mine mentioned that you can't Poly into a creature that has more HD then you have levels. IDHMBOMATM but is this correct?

For example, if you are a level 11 Wizard, you couldn't Poly into a 12HD creature.

I thought it meant that you couldn't take on the new HD of the creature you changed into. So, being 11 HD, if I change into something with 14 HD, I still keep my 11 HD (and adjust the new constitution modifier).

Anyone know?

Ummm... I believe size is the only restriction on polymorph.... if they've added in requirements for HD, that would be news to me.

Yes, I know.

When using Polymorph Self you cannot change into a creature with more hit dice than you have, or more hit dice than your caster level.

When using Polymorph Other you cannot change the target into a creature with more hit dice than you have caster levels, or more hit dice than you have, or more hit dice than your target has.

In neither case do you adjust your hit points for the new forms Constitution modifier. The target of either spell retains its normal hit points, but may modify Fortitude saves and other Constitution related checks by the new modifier.

This is all detailed in Tome & Blood.

Things you can not do with Polymorph:
*change into some creature that has more HD than you do
*change into some creature that has more HD than the caster does
*change max HP total (the con change doesn't change HP, only saves/skills)
*change HD
*change type
*change into something more than 1 size class above you
*change into something smaller than tiny
*change into an outsider, undead, ooze, or construct unless you already are that type

This is still open to far too much abuse if you want to powergame.
