So just wondering, but what rules are you talking about?

I do agree we seemed to drift from the orginal question. I think the current discusion (on topic) is centered on rather ability damage transfers over to your new ability score or do you replace your old damaged score with a new undamaged score. My interpretation is that ability damage or drain lowers your score rather than building up a transferable penalty. Thus if you change scores it goes away but if you change back to your normal form it still has the ability damage.
