Polymorph Self -- Favorite Uses

(If an awakened mouse wizard can cast spells, then, by God, a Wizard in the form of a mouse can cast spells.)

A mouse doesn't have the voice or hands necessary for spellcasting. Stilled and silenced spells you could use, but other than that, no. By God. ;)

[PHB p177]Quote: An awakened tree or animal can speak one language that you know, plus one additional language that you know per point of Intelligence bonus (if any).

Me: The somatic can be adapted to the animal's physiognomy. Hops and skips for a mouse Wizard instead of the finger wiggles used by a human. So an animal spell caster is possible.

Which leads to this idea. How about an awakened animal campaign? A bear Paladin, wolverine Barbarian, hawk Cleric, and fox Rogue off to explore the world, and stop the Big Bad. They look like their unawakened counterparts, act like their unawakened counterparts, but they can talk.

A hawk that can raise the dead.

Think of the possibilities.

One of my players polymorphs into a Formian Myrmarch on a regular basis.
Someone corrected it once before but same misatke has been made twice again.. unless the wizard in question is already an outsider he cannot polly into one... (Officially)

Strangely, most of my players just use Polymorph Self (Sometimes coupled with other spells and Permanence) to do massive body-scupting... creating exotic living sculptures out of themselves.

Our party wizard polymorphs into a pixie or a raven when he's scouting (his familiar's a raven, who looks at a pair of birds?). He's turned into a troll and a hill giant for fighting, we've faced barbarians in both flavas. And a silver dragon is useful for flying the decapitated paladin and cut-nearly-in-half cleric back to the temple to be true resurrected after getting them killed in the first place.

The improved version of Polymorph appeared first in Dragon #280 and is available here, on Eric's old pages.

[Edit]
I highly recommend it, it saves a lot of hassle.
