Poor sword and shield?

Shadowstar posted that the Tower Shield will give +4 AC (but gain a -2 penalty to hit), or can be used to gain total cover (in which case you can't attack at all).

I think If you are a sword and boarder, Expertise is a good feat to take and use. That way, you will be really hard to hit.

Sword and board is about the only thing I've seen stand up to high-level mages, a shield w/ reflection does wonders.

Using a tower shield will still be a good idea for fighters though. With Greater weapon focus, the attack penalty is basically only -1, and fighters have attack bonus to spare anyway. It's worth it for +2 AC.

I agree. I advocate even using Expertise, which basically is what this shield boils down to: -2 to hit for +2 to AC.

Or to imitate and slightly twist some friendly and prolific board user's words: "All Expertise, all the time!"
