Possible alternate cleric spellcasting

You know... You could always make the "spontaneous domain spell conversion" ability into a metamagic feat.

In fact, FRCS has a feat called "Signature Spell" that allows a Wizard to just that with any Spell that he has Spell Mastery for.

I have a divine caster class in my campaign called "prophets", and they use the Sorcerer spells known and spells castable in order to cause magic to happen. They know their spells as "prayers" or as "faiths". Spells known recieve a bonus from Wisdom, spells castable recieve a bonus from Charisma. They use the normal cleric BAB/Saves/HD.

The prophets are rising up across the nations; is it a reaction against the church hierarchy? The prophets content that the priesthood is just *using* the power of god, and they are here to oppose that...

I like the feel of a religous class that doesn't have a lot of different things they can do - they only have faith for a small number of different kinds of miracles... but they can invoke those miracles time and time again.

Cheers

Hmmm...that's an interesting idea. Do you still employ any of the domains for the prophet? How about turning undead? For that matter, can they spontaneously case Cure/Inflict spells as a cleric?

As it stands I do allow them to channel energy (turning undead, etc). I don't allow them to spontaneously cast cure/inflict... either they know how to pray for it or they don't, and if they do - since it is sorcerer-like casting it is the equivalent of being able to swap out since it just amounts to spell slots.

I don't give them domains abilities and spells, but that is a flavour thing for my monotheistic world. I see the domain abilities come out of special training which the priesthood is given, and these guys are shepherds, farmers, princes - anyone touched by god as a prophet.

Cheers
